Almost everything is filed and paid online in the NGOs Information System (NIS). Dates below count down from today. A report of all activities carried out in the quarter just ended.

First one
October–December 2026, filed by 15 January 2027. No report is needed for the first three quarters of 2026, because Matendo did no activity before registering.
How
NIS → quarterly reports → the quarter → fill in the activities → submit. Save the confirmation.

Regulation 20, NGOs (Amendments) Regulations 2019, GN 685 · NGOA Form No. 14 or 15. The law sets no filing date; the 15th of the following month is Matendo's own.

Annual report and audited accounts

The annual subscription. The bill appears in NIS once issued; it has not been issued yet.
How
NIS → bills → get the control number → pay by mobile money or at the bank using that number → keep the receipt.

Publish money received and spent

What
Twice a year, a statement of the funds received and how they were spent.
Where
In NIS for the ministry, and in a widely read newspaper. Also in places the Hadzabe and Maasai communities can actually see it — village notice boards, in Kiswahili.
Periods
January–June, published by 31 July; July–December, published by 31 January. The first covers September–December 2026, by 31 January 2027.

Standing duties

All the time
Office
Keep a permanent address and physical head office, and keep them up to date in NIS.
Records
Keep the asset register, internal policies and the bank account in order.
Conduct
Work within the constitution and the laws of Tanzania, and respect the culture and traditions of the communities served.
Guidance
Follow the Guideline for NGOs Coordination in Mainland Tanzania (2020, revised 2024).

Triggered by events

When things happen.

These have no fixed date — the clock starts when the event happens. Enter the date to see the deadline.

Funding agreement

A donor will give more than TZS 20 million in a year (about US$7,500). Submit the agreement in NIS.

Within 10 days of signing.

Fundraising

Matendo has finished an appeal or fundraising event. Disclose where the money came from, how it will be spent, why, and on which activities.

Within 14 days of finishing.

Change of particulars

A change to the name, office bearers, address or constitution. Notify through NIS with the certified resolution and a copy of the certificate.

Within 14 days, by usual practice.
Paying anyone? If Matendo takes on paid staff, it must also register with NSSF and the Workers Compensation Fund, and deduct PAYE and SDL for TRA. A non-citizen working for Matendo needs the proper permits before starting, and further returns follow.

If Matendo gets it wrong

Penalties.

  • TZS 100,000each year the annual report and audited accounts, or the annual fee, are late.
  • up to TZS 500,000fine for forgery, fundraising contrary to the Act, or breaking the regulations.
  • up to TZS 50,000for every day an offence continues, if a court so orders.
  • De-registrationthousands of NGOs have been struck off for not filing quarterly reports and funding contracts.
